Undersized libero out-worked taller recruits to a D1 commit

A relentless libero whose height had coaches passing before they watched. Real numbers — passing percentage, digs per set, serve receive rating — told a different story. We got that story in front of the right people.

Where they started

The situation

  • Height listed 5'5" — instantly filtered out by many programs
  • Club coach said 'D2 is realistic' and stopped there
  • Highlight video was a mixtape — no stats, no context
  • Two D2 offers already in hand, no D1 interest

The plan we ran

What we actually did

Step 1

Led with the stats, not the tape

Every email opened with three numbers: passing percentage, serve receive rating, and digs per set. Coaches evaluate liberos on numbers — we made the numbers impossible to skip.

Step 2

Recut the film by skill

Serve receive first, defense second, transitions third. Coaches could evaluate one skill at a time in under a minute.

Step 3

Targeted programs by style

Identified mid-major D1 programs whose systems reward passing over blocking height. Ten of them replied to first contact.

Step 4

Made the visits count

Trained her to run her own visit — sit in on film, ask about defensive scheme, meet the current libero. Coaches noticed the seriousness.

The turning point

The head coach at her eventual school called her club coach and said 'the tape's fine, but the passing stats are elite. Get her on campus.'

The result

Where they ended up

  • Committed to a mid-major D1 in November of senior year
  • Partial athletic + full academic stacked — family cost under $12k/year
  • Program with a starting libero graduating her freshman year
  • Two D2 offers stayed open until she signed — real leverage
"Every coach saw 5'5" first. Kito made them see 2.4 first. That's the whole story."
