Small-school offensive lineman turned a preferred walk-on into a full ride

A raw, mauling tackle from a 2A high school no D1 school scouted. He'd been offered a preferred walk-on at an FCS program and was ready to take it. We rebuilt his exposure plan, got him in front of D2 line coaches who valued frame and feet, and turned it into a full ride.

Written offers

Where they started

The situation

  • Playing in a run-heavy 2A offense no recruiter watched
  • One preferred walk-on offer and a family that couldn't afford the tuition without aid
  • No combine numbers, no verified measurables — just game film
  • Convinced 'no one wants a 2A lineman'

The plan we ran

What we actually did

Step 1

Got real measurables on record

Verified height, weight, wingspan, and hand size at a regional combine. Uploaded them to his recruiting profile and every email signature. Coaches stopped guessing and started evaluating.

Step 2

Rebuilt the film for line coaches

Line coaches don't watch highlights — they watch pass sets, second-level blocks, and finishes. We cut a 4-minute reel by technique category, not by pancake plays. Every clip answered a question.

Step 3

Targeted D2s that recruit his archetype

We identified D2 programs in the region whose OL coaches historically took developmental frames from small schools. He emailed 18 of them; 14 replied.

Step 4

Camp strategy that actually worked

Skipped mega-camps. Attended 5 D2 one-day camps where he could get one-on-one work in front of the head coach and OL coach on the same day.

The turning point

At a D2 camp in June, the OL coach walked him through a full install script — then asked if he could stay for dinner. The offer came the next morning.

The result

Where they ended up

  • Committed in July before senior year to a full D2 scholarship
  • Family paying zero tuition — a life-changing package
  • Enrolling in a program that develops linemen into all-conference starters
  • Walked away from the PWO offer with confidence, not regret
"We thought D2 was a step down. It's the step that changed our family's life. Kito saw the ceiling nobody else did."
